  1. yeah, it's something that I've considered doing.

Perhaps the way to do it would be to put them as subforums of a main "venues" forums (in the same way that Glasto has sub forums on the festivals boards)? What do peeps think?

Also, I guess if I were to do that, it might be an idea to further split out the bands forums, so there's few letters used for each forum? What do peeps think?

  2. Well according to this, theres 23,000 biogs for a start, might have trouble getting the BBC to let ya use the info though :)

ahhh, the BBC buy that in, and it's sold to lots of sites ...

I had the firm who do it contact me about a year ago, and try to get me to buy into using it. He was a normal won't-let-it-lie salesman type, but he soon gave up when I explained that he wanted more to use the database than eFestivals takes in a year.

  3. There's an AWFUL lot of work involved in doing something like this.

It would require putting together a database of every band since the year dot, with a discography for each band, and then maintained as bands release new albums.

The actual voting bit is easy to do when that HUGE database has been built.

It's a great idea, but it's not something I'd consider doing, due to the masses of work involved.

But it might be worth you trying to sell the idea to Napster ort one of the other download sites - after all, they'll already have (or can get access to, from the record companies) the databases of bands and releases. Quite how you get to sell the idea to them tho I'm not sure.

  4. the 'latest tours' bit (on the right of the pages of the main site) is listed with the most recently added at the top.

But if you click on the "all tours" bit at the bottom of that list, it gives an alphabetical list of all bands listed with future live dates.

Hopefully, that gives you what you want to see.

  5. This website is still getting started, and the database of venues still needs to be built up, to be a complete list of UK venues.

If you'd like to help us by submitting details of any venues, then you can do that here.

  6. the civic hall in guildford has bands now & then.

But the main problem with that area is it's too close to london - any half decent band will play london, but then consider anywhere in surrey as too close, and not likely to attract enough ticket sales. And likewise, people tend to want to seee things in london in preference to anywhere local.

  7. are we really considered SE? not greater london or even SW??? had to be picky, I live here and still cant work it out?!?!?

defo not SW (have you never looked at a map? :) ).

When it came to working out how to split the regions, I took the easy option, and went on govt administrative areas (with a couple of minor changes).
