  1. eGigs is having a makeover and then it's going to have some real and constant efforts put into content (news, etc).

You can see the new colour above, although that's not actually how the main part of the site will look.

Hopefully it'll be ready to go by the beginning of September.

  2. You might have noticed that the list of bands which makes up the 'latest tourdates' new gigs list has got a bit static in the last few weeks. This was due to some changes in the data feeds it uses.

I've now amended the code that processes those data feeds to compensate, so I hope the list will now be a more visible reflection of the many new gigs that get listed here.

  3. The forums have just been upgraded to the latest version of the forums software, and the custom skins re-created from scratch to ensure that they're using all the features as they should be.

Hopefully everything will work properly but if anything isn't working please let me know via a forums post.

  4. The forums will be updated to the latest version of the forums software within the next hour - as soon as I've uploaded all of the relevant software.

This will require the forums to be taken offline for a short while (around 15 minutes) while the upgrade process is carried out. Apologies for any inconvenience.

I'll make a further post in this topic when the upgrade has been completed.

  5. because of the number of spam-bots now hitting these forums, I've chosen to upgrade the forums as this newer version does a better job at keeping the bots away.

To cut down on the re-skinning work (to make it match the eGigs colour scheme) I've used the efestivals skin initially, which I'll be working thru in the next few hours (or perhaps days), so at the moment it's not looking as pretty as it might.

Apologies in the meantime - I'll get it sorted as quickly as I can.

  6. a short while ago, an automated bot attacked these forums, and used them to try and promote via the personal message system a particular website, based in russia, and which is designed to make any visitors to it pick up a virus.

As soon as this was spotted, the personal messages were deleted to protect people from getting the virus.

So if you've had a personal message notification but you have no personal message, this is the reason why.

Apologies for any inconvenience. We've taken a number of actions which we hope should stop anything similar happening again.

  7. I do really like the new look forums but there is loads of extra stuff:

    Quick Access

    Insert: Center

    Insert: Topic Link

    Insert: Post Link

    Insert: CODEBOX

    Insert: SPOILER

    Insert: Acronym

And wrap in code tags - what does that mean?

    And toggle side panel?

and specify open and close time?

I think the 'open & close time' is available to you because you're a moderator (and isn't available to normal forum users.

'wrap in code tags' is where you want some text to have some code effect it - such as by making it bold.

'toggle side panel' makes the 'Quick Access' box appear/disappear.

  8. the one problem that I was aware existed since the upgrade - that when in a forum, clicking on the 'forum options' button jumped you to the bottom of the page - has now been resolved.

(It wasn't a problem with the forum software, it was a problem with changes I'd made to it).

  9. The eGigs forums have been upgraded to the latest version of the forum software. As a result of the upgrade, I've noticed that some of the functions might not work for some people if using Firefox 2 (and perhaps other browsers).

If you're experiencing problems, they'll hopefully be cleared by clearing your browser cache (this worked for Firefox 2).

For Firefox 2, go to the 'tools' menu option, and chose 'options'. Then select the 'privacy' section, and then press the 'clear now' button for 'private data' (it should then prompt you for what part of private data you wish to clear - you need to clear at least the 'cache' option).

  10. I've had plans to give users various personalisation options since eGigs was first conceived, the only problem is finding the time to sort it.

I'm currently crackin' on with other changes for both efests & egigs, because if I don't do the more minor changes first I'll have to go back on everything (which will make doing everything take twice as long, and programming already takes twice what I estimate anyway  ).

Hopefully, it'll all be sorted by new year. But it might not be.
