This band hold no punches, they admit to being a band that enjoys putting on a great show as well as playing finely crafted rock songs. It is easy to see that The Darkness just want to live the dream of playing to thousands of fans, in a huge stadium with all the pyrotechnic explosions and dazzling lights, as well as everything else that goes along with it.
The band members have already mastered all of the classic guitar poses that stadium rock bands use, Justin (vocalist) is clearly one of the most flamboyant stage performers that Britain has seen for a while. To describe him, you'd have to imagine someone being able to squeal like Steve Tyler as well as having the same type of charisma and stage presence that Freddie Mercury used to have over the audience.
The Darkness really don't care what people think of them, they are out for a good time, and if anyone wants to join them for the journey, then they are more than welcome to. That attitude comes across throughout their entire performance.
Numerous magazines have come up with different descriptions of their songs: however, I'd describe their material as being a mixture of sentiment and clever cliches, which mainly revolve round good old fashioned solid guitar riffs.
Their debut album 'Permission to Land' is certainly one to have in your collection. Admittedly it is easy to pick certain parts that sound like they have closely emulated groups like AC/DC and Def Leppard, but they have done it in such a way that quite frankly just impresses me.
The Darkness will be on their own headlining tour in October, if they are in your town, definitely check them out before they move onto bigger and better things. This is rock n roll at its best.
