Sugababes

The Sugababes rolled into Nottingham once again to play another gig. They must like Nottingham because it hasn’t been that long since they played a secret gig in the Social (a small club where bands get crucified if they are crap). Needless to say, the Sugababes put on a cracking show back then and actually got out unscathed!

The line-up once again has altered since last time, and now consists of new girl Amelle, as well as Heidi and Keisha.

The show opened with Heidi, Amelle and Keisha standing behind gigantic white flowing stage curtains, and as the crowd started cheering at deafening proportions, a single spotlight lit up Keisha to project her silhouette onto the curtain. This drove the crowd into an even bigger frenzy. Then the next silhouette appeared and then the final one whilst they were just singing the words ‘round round’ over the mainly female teenage screams!

They eventually came from behind the curtains and belted out the opening track ‘Round Round’. If ever there were a pop group that had all the right ingredients then the Sugababes would surely be at the top of that list. Visually all of the members are stunning, and any man who goes to a Sugababes show and tells his girlfriend/wife that he didn’t notice is a complete liar!

Not only have they got the looks, but vocally they are nothing short of astounding. A lot of pop groups still mime, but these pop divas had the courage to perform the proper way and sing live. I personally couldn’t fault their singing and so they must be doing something right considering I dislike pop concerts at the best of times.

If anything this show demonstrated that the Sugababes are experts at delivering a great live show, and they didn’t do that nasty trick of saving their hits until the end of the show - instead they slip them in throughout the entire night.

In no time at all they had treated the audience to ‘Freak Like Me’, ‘Too Lost In You’, ‘Ugly’, ‘Hole In The Head’, and they even managed to squeeze in cover versions of Arctic Monkeys' ‘I Bet You Look On The Dancefloor’ and Human League's ‘Obsession’.

Heidi, Keisha and Amelle could have ended the show and gone home safe in the knowledge that their fans would have been more than happy. However they instead did an encore that included ‘Red Dress’. Can you guess what their stage costumes were for this song?? No prizes for originality! They then ended the show with ‘Push The Button’.

A great gig. As much as it hurts me to say it, I really enjoyed it, as this had everything - stunning women; colourful lighting; loud and crystal clear sound; and above all superb music!
