Pink

Arena, Nottingham on Sun 21st Mar 2004

eFestivals decided to go and catch Pink live, to see if she would be a worthy of being at the same festival as prestigious artistes like Muse and Dido.

Pink started her performance by being lowered onto the stage in a cage, wearing a mohican pink wig. The audience gave a her a warm welcome as she started singing ‘There You Go’ whilst acting out a western shoot-out with her backing dancers.

Things got rather raunchy during ‘Lady Marmalade’ as four blow up dolls were placed on stage representing the others that performed this song with Pink. This slowly turned into a soft porn show - with Pink acting out a mock orgy; however there was a bit of humour when she held up one ugly doll and started to sing ‘You Are Beautiful, No Matter What I Say’ clearly an insult aimed at Christina Aguilera.

Pink and her backing dancers carried on with the soft porn dance routines by literally stripping her backing dancers down to just their g-strings, the topless dancers caused a bit of shock amongst some of the people in the audience but as a whole it was still done rather tastefully.

All the hits were played, including my personal favourite ‘Just Like A Pill’. ‘Get the Party Started’ was left until the encore along with a cracking cover version of guns n roses ‘Welcome to the Jungle’.

This show had it all great tunes, semi-naked women, athletic dancing including Pink being lifted from the stage by parallel curtains accompanied with some incredible gymnastics carried out at a death defying height.

After seeing this show, there is no doubt that Pink would be able to give the rest of the bands at V Festival a good run for their money.
