Foxes / Ariana and the Rose

Shepherd's Bush Empire, London on Tue 9th Dec 2014

The support act for Foxes was Ariana and the Rose. I was pleasantly surprised by this band, they hail from New York and the crowd seem to like them. The lead singer reminds me of early Lady Gaga but with a little more edge. I think we might see some good material from them in 2015.

Ariana and The Rose

I first saw Foxes (real name Lousia Rose Allen) early this year at the Concorde club 2 in Brighton and also at Glastonbury Festival back in June. Even back then I was impressed by her vocal ability and stage presence so early in her career.

When she arrives on the stage there is no fanfare, flashing lights or build up, such things are not required by such a talented artist. We are treated to a full performance of her debut album 'Glorious' and every track is delivered note perfect. She works the full stage with a maturity beyond her years. The fact that she writes all her own material seems to help her perform it with genuine affection, passion and emotion. Even when she performs a mash up of Destiny Child's 'Say My Name' and Artful Dodger's 'Moving Too Fast' she puts her own edge on it and makes it her own.

Foxes

Foxes preforms an hour set and even though it's the collaborations with Rudimental and Zedd that are the most well received tracks of the evening- you feel that there is great promise of more yet to come. For me, I think once she releases another album (she informs us that this is the last tour of 'Glorious') she will then have a good body of material which will allow her to shine even more when she preforms live.

Foxes has worked hard and long to get to where she is today. I for one hope this young lady goes on to have the success she truly deserves.
