news: Monday 15th October 2012

The Rolling Stones one of the greatest rock and roll bands in the world have announced their 50th anniversary tour dates which include two dates at London O2 Arena, and two gigs in December in New York.

Their numerous chart-topping studio albums are not their only accomplishment over a five decade career, it has been 50 years since their first gig at London's Marquee Club and they've been giving crowds satisfaction ever since.

Mick Jagger commented, "Everybody loves a celebration, and London and New York are two good places to do it in." Keith Richards added, "Sorry to keep you all hanging around but the waiting is over. I've always said the best place for rock and roll is on the stage and the same is true for the Stones. I'm here with Mick, Charlie and Ronnie and everything is rocking. See you very soon!"

The Rolling Stones tour will include the following UK dates:

Sun 25 November The O2 Arena, London
Thu 29 November The O2 Arena, London

The Stones' last live performances were for their 'A Bigger Bang' tour, which wound up in 2007. The band's history is also chronicled in a new movie 'Crossfire Hurricane', made by director Brett Morgen, which looks back on all aspects of their career. It is screened in cinemas this month and then will be broadcast by BBC2 later in the year.

Fans can look forward to an all-new, custom-built set design, with a stage based on the tongue and lips logo, with integral video screens and effects. These live shows will also mark the launch of a new venture - Virgin Live. Virgin Live sees the coming together of two globally respected brands - Dainty Group and Virgin Group. Richard Branson and Paul Dainty's history with the Rolling Stones spans five decades, and these shows which celebrate the band's 50th anniversary sees them joining forces for the first time.

Paul Dainty said, "I've worked with the Rolling Stones for many years and I still get a buzz every time I see them live, these four shows are without doubt a must-see event. I am extremely excited about this collaboration with Virgin. There will be a lot more to say about Virgin Live soon but, for now, it's all about the Stones..."

Richard Branson added, "Today marks the beginning of Virgin Live and what a beginning! In the future Virgin Live plans to make a real difference to how fans experience, interact and enjoy live events - Virgin Live gigs will be truly people driven. It's great to join forces with Dainty Group to launch Virgin Live with the Rolling Stones 50th Anniversary shows. Who would have believed, that a relationship with the band that started in the Sixties, would still be going strong five decades later with us working together again on these amazing shows."

Last week The Stones released, a new single, 'Doom And Gloom' from the forthcoming 3 CD greatest hits collection 'GRRR!' released next month. Michael Eavis has been after the band to play Glastonbury Festival for sometime, and whilst eFestivals believes they are still trying to get the band to headline the Festival, it is still not a done deal.

Tickets will go on sale from 9am on Friday 19th October priced from £95 to £375, and eGigs will have links to buy them then.
