KT Tunstall / Sam Lewis / Rozi Plain

Parr Hall, Warrington on Mon 31st Oct 2011

Halloween in Warrington, damp, dark and rainy: Not one of the best nights to be venturing out to see a gig. 180 mile round trip and a mystery tour around Warrington to find the venue.

Tonight was all about seeing KT Tunstall do her 'thang'. Just her on stage with all her gizmos. I was quite excited at the fact that it was gonna be just her and we could hear her angelic voice without fighting against a rather highly strung lead guitar.

Two support acts, first act was on for 30 mins, her name escapes me (Rozi Plain) but she was quite comical between songs.

Sam Lewis was up next and again a 30 min set ensued. Supporting KT on her last tour ('Tiger Suit' - see review here) and being a KT Tunstall tour veteran, everyone that's seen KT on tour before will remember him. After taking 12 months out to write and record an album of his own he was back tonight and he stormed Warrington. You could hear a pin drop throughout his set, which was a far cry from the Bath Forum gig a few months back when you could hardly hear him due to audience interference.

This guy is definitely talented and has a remarkable a stage presence. His dulcet tones and soulful voice are enough to mesmerise anybody, his album is definitely worth a listen.

KT Tunstall

The Hall was like something you'd see in the 'olden days' hosting something like the proms, you could just imagine it. The audience was quite mixed and unfortunately this showed throughout the show, a seated audience at a KT Tunstall show, never, the audience stayed in there seats for the whole of the show except for the encore when KT beckoned everyone to stand up. This should've happened earlier, my feet were stomping and I just wanted to get up and strut my stuff. We had a row of geriatrics in front of us they would've made 'Churchill' the dog proud with their head nodding. Saying this though some people did read KT's tweets and they dressed up for the occasion in Halloween outfits and gory face make-up to match.

Merchandise is always reasonably priced at KT's gigs, wonderful quality T-shirts that wash and iron fabulously (How would I know that?). T-shirts for £18 and signed posters for £10, even mugs and tote bags, definitely a bargain to be had.

The stage drop was the fabulous photo of KT with the Tiger headdress on, stage strewn with a flashing pumpkin and glow in the dark skeleton heads, all bought for a bargain price. Throughout the set the grim reaper came on to get each act off stage, which was quite comical to say the least.

Bongos, Piano, Tambourine and a couple of guitars scattered the stage. Everyone was waiting with baited breath for KT to come on stage. 9.30 came and everyone was ecstatic, KT made her appearance on stage clad in a pair of pink pyjamas, black boots, and her hair slicked back, with scars and face make up to glam up the Halloween theme.

Tonight was all about KT showcasing her vocal and musical talents, and boy, oh boy she didn't disappoint. The 90 minute set was astonishing, at times you would pinch yourself and think "How talented is this women!" KT proved tonight she has an amazing voice and she is a one women band, playing guitar, piano, Tambourine and bongos. Every song was honed to perfection, I don't think the set could've been improved any as we went through every emotion, it was just spectacular hearing the songs stripped back, the audience were just in ore of KT. I wouldn't have missed this show for the world and it made my second wedding anniversary just that bit more special.

KT Tunstall

The 16 song set kicked off with the amazing 'Glamour Puss', then 'Feels Like Home' and the stonking 'Ummanq Song', total quality. Tonight was about the old and new KT Tunstall back catalogue, also showcasing her EP 'Scarlet Tulip' which is an acoustic EP and an absolute classic, a must for any fan of music; it showcases KT at her best. Tracks of the night were 'Scarlet Tulip' an absolute classic, totally loved it, 'Universe and You', anthemic 'Black Horse and a Cherry Tree' and 'Suddenly I See'.

If you do anything this year buy the 'Scarlet Tulip' EP, it'll be the best thing you’ve done and you won’t regret it.

This show was amazing, whetted my appetite for more and I would actually consider seeing the show again, it was that good. Possibly one of the better shows I've seen this year.

This woman showed she is one of the UK's finest female performers, I will never tire of seeing her live, shame some of the rest of the UK doesn't realise how talented she is.

You can catch KT throughout the UK in November, there are still 9 more dates on the tour, 8th and 9th November at Union Chapel, London, culminating in Scotland with 3 dates in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, with a few in between. Many of these are sold out, to buy tickets, where available, click here.

Don't miss out otherwise you'll kick yourself.
