Forever The Sickest Kids, You Me At Six

It is very rare to see Rock City packed to the rafters before the support act have even arrived on stage. However the support act for You Me At Six were one band that had the pulling power to attract a sell out crowd. Even whilst waiting outside the venue there were fans trying to buy tickets for extortionate prices just so they could catch a glimpse of Forever The Sickest Kids (FTSK).



Admittedly I had never heard of the band until this gig, yet clearly I was in the minority as the mainly teenage crowd seemed to know everything about them. My first thought before they had even stepped on stage was that this was one of those stereotypical bands that sell a superficial fantasy to teenagers. However this was not the case with FTSK as from the moment they stepped on stage they impressed everyone in the audience with their high octane energy and insanely addictive songs, opening the show with 'She's A Lady' demonstrated that these guys can easily be categorised as musicians, each member playing their chosen instrument like a true master.

The lead vocalist Jonathan Cook certainly had the typical pin up good looks for a singer, but it was his singing and energetic bouncing and hand gestures that made him stand out. In fact the entire band seemed so enthusiastic to be on stage that they were just one huge ball of energy.

It was easy to see why FTSK have been compared to Simple Plan, they both have incredibly addictive sing-a-long tunes with killer melodies that are so difficult to resist. But FTSK seem to have the right ingredients for a very long career.

Because they were just the support act, due to only having about thirty minutes to play, they squeezed in all of the crowd favourites such as 'Hey Brittany' and 'She Likes' into a short space of time.



They left their best known song to date 'Woah Ho' until the end of the set, which created a frenzied push by the crowd, with glow sticks and other items being thrown recklessly by their fans.

FTSK are one of those bands that appeal to the young music crowd, which is great if you are aged between 14-18, however for me being somewhat older than that they will have to remain one of those bands that I know I shouldn't like but just can't resist.

Hopefully they will be back doing their own headline tour in the UK soon.
