Slayer postpone this month's tour - updated

rescheduled for May and June 2010

news: Thursday 21st January 2010

American metallers Slayer have have been forced to postpone their forthcoming UK tour due to a back injury to bassist Tom Araya.

The tour that had been set to start on Wednesday (18th November) in Nottingham will now take place in March and April 2010, starting on Sunday 7th March in Manchester.

Vocalist/bassist Tom Araya was diagnosed with a Cervical Radiculopathy, an occupational hazard for the rocker who is known for aggressively swinging his long mane of hair while performing. Originally, Araya opted for a series of minimally-invasive procedures, and while they resulted in some improvement, they didn't entirely remedy the severe pain, numbness or muscle spasms that Araya continued to experience. Consequently, Araya made the difficult decision to undergo a surgical procedure, called an Anterior Cervical Discectomy with Fusion, a relatively routine practice with an excellent recovery rate.

"I think that his just making the decision to have the surgery has helped improve the way he feels," said long-time Slayer manager Rick Sales. "While no one wants to go under the knife, his doctors are very confident about this procedure taking care of the problem once and for all."

The new tour dates are:

Wed 26 May O2 Academy, Leeds
Thu 27 May Barrowland, Glasgow
Sat 29 May O2 Academy, Birmingham
Sun 30 May O2 Academy, Manchester
Mon 31 May Rock City, Nottingham
Wed 02 June HMV Forum, London
Thu 03 June HMV Forum, London
