news: Wednesday 26th November 2008

French-born singer and political activist Manu Chao has announced an intimate show, at Kentish Town Forum, London, on Tuesday 16th December. This will be his first London headline performance since the three sold out shows he performed at Brixton Academy in October 2007.

Chao will also be releasing a new single 'La Vida Tombola', on digital download from Monday 19th January. La Vida Tombola has been used in a documentary about the life of Argentinean football legend Diego Maradona. The film, 'Maradona by Kusturica', was part of the official selection at Cannes this year and will be released in the UK in 2009.

On Thursday 19th February the book 'The Train of Ice and Fire' finally gets its UK release. It tells the story of the infamous tour of Colombia by Chao's old band Mano Negra in 1993, which ultimately led to their break-up and set Manu Chao off on his new musical path. The book is written by Manu's father Ramón Chao, who is a distinguished writer, broadcaster.

The book looks like it is well worth reading as it follows a group of French artists, acrobats, tattooists and assorted entertainers who set off through the heart of Colombia on a reclaimed train putting on free concerts at railway stations along the way. Ramón was there to chronicle the trip, and also looks at the social and political context of the land through which they travel.

Tickets are on sale now, priced £18.50 and are available by clicking here.
