Left Field announce 18 hour marathon warm up show in Brighton

The Thirst, Frank Turner, The Krak, and more for Rock Against Racism

news: Friday 2nd May 2008

Glastonbury Festival's union-organised Left Field stage today announced an 18 hour marathon warm up show in Brighton two weeks before the festival in support of Rock Against Racism.

The unique Brighton event kicks off at noon on Friday the 13th June at Coalition on Brighton beach with an exclusive preview of the Rock Against Racism feature film Who Shot The Sheriff? which includes unseen footage of The Clash, The Libertines and Hard Fi.

In the afternoon Coalition will host open mic, comedy, surprise live bands and collaborations, and even a samba session from Brighton's own Carnival Collective in traditional Left Field Glastonbury style.

Forming an orderly crocodile along the prom, and paying respects to the statue of the legendary Max Miller on the way, the show moves over to Komedia for an evening of the finest Left Field live entertainment headlined by the hotly tipped Brixton band The Thirst, who are making a massive noise with their latest single on Ronnie Wood's label.

Backing The Thirst will be Frank Turner, former Million Dead front man, who is now making a huge impact as a solo artist. Frank will be heading down to Brighton with The Krak, recently signed to Left Field spin-off label Militant Entertainment. Brighton's up-and coming live act The Perils complete the Komedia bill.

And then it's back to Coalition for the final blast through from midnight to 6am with many acts still to be confirmed but including Elle Milano, Emily Baker, Teasing Lulu, Maths Class, Jamestown Union, the Bobby McGees and Night of Treason – some very special guests are expected to join the fun. For those still up for a party there will be a second late night show at the Joogleberry Playhouse with top line guest DJ's to be announced.

Geoff Martin, Glastonbury Left Field Director, said, "We thought that rather than just doing a one off gig as a Glasto warm up we ought to pull together a bit of a mini-festival and that's what we're doing. A bunch of people are getting the train down from London on the Friday morning and then heading back on the milk train first thing Saturday just to be part of this unique event. And it's all for Rock Against Racism, what more could you want?."

Tickets for the Komedia show are £8 in advanced and £12 on the door. Combination tickets for the whole event (18 hours) will be £15 in advance and £20 on the day. Tickets for the core show at the Komedia are already on sale, at the Komedia box office and here.

Combination tickets for the entire 18 hours will be available from the Komedia box office, ticketweb, Rounder and Resident from Wednesday 07th May. These will be exchanged for a wrist band at any of the participating venues.
