Pete Doherty banned from driving

who gave him a car in the first place?

news: Tuesday 13th February 2007

It has been reported that Babyshambles lead singer and ex-Libertine Pete Doherty has been fined £300 and disqualified from driving for two months.

Doherty was also fined £55 costs, £200 for driving without insurance, and £100 for driving without a proper licence, despite the fact he had passed his test and was actually eligible for one.

The singer was warned by District Judge Jane McIvor that if he is caught driving without a licence again he will face jail.

Sean Curran (Doherty's defence counsel) said that "Mr Doherty accepts that he was driving with no licence and insurance. He had left the task of getting an insurance policy in the hands on one of his managers, who hadn't done so."

Two other driving related charges against Doherty were dropped. The BBC reports that he was arrested near his home in November last year, after officers spotted him driving his Jaguar 'erratically' near his east London home.
