Tickets for Diana concert sell out in minutes

news: Wednesday 13th December 2006

Tickets for the Diana Memorial Concert, which takes place at the new Wembley Stadium on Saturday 1st July (what would have been Diana's 46th birthday), sold out within 20 minutes of going on sale.

The tickets went on sale this morning (December 13th) at 9am. By 9.20am the phone lines and internet booking sites for the first release of seats closed.

Shortly after it was reported that tickets were appearing on online auction site ebay for up to £300, despite their original £45 price tag. Later, ebay pulled the tickets from their site and issued this statement:

“In view of the unique and commemorative nature of the Concert for Diana event and as a mark of respect for the memory of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, we’ve decided to prohibit the resale of tickets to this event on the site."

There is still hope for those desperate to get tickets who didn't manage to buy them the first time around. The official site (concertfordiana.com) said that "We hope very much that more tickets will be released in the New Year.".

The line up for the event includes Pharrell Williams, Elton John, Duran Duran, Joss Stone and Bryan Ferry, with more acts due to be announced.
