program launched to fight anti-social behaviour through music

The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Tessa Jowell, and the music charity Youth Music are set to launch a new national music programme aimed at young people. The idea is to raise respect and aspiration and tackle antisocial behaviour.

The two year programme will engage young people in creative music making and provide one on one group mentoring sessions with peers, musicians and the music industry.

It will run across 14 English Regions including Birmingham; Bradford; Bristol; Camden; Hackney; Kngston-upon-Hull; Leeds; Liverpool; Manchester; Newham; Nottingham; Sandwell; Southwark; and Tower Hamlets.

The launch event takes place on Wednesday 1st November from 19.00 – 20.15 at The Space, in London. Tessa Jowell will be one of the keynote speakers, and there will be a panel discussion on 'what respect means to young people', involving music leaders and Louise Casey, the Government Co-ordinator for Respect.
