The Feeling

Rock City, Nottingham on Mon 1st May 2006

It is very rare to go to a gig and see a support band that completely outshine the headliners… However that is exactly what The Feeling did whilst supporting The Charlatans.

The Feeling arrived onstage to a warm reception, there were only a handful of people in the venue at this time, quite possibly because the Charlatans fans were stoned or drunk and would be staggering in later.

Frontman Dan Gillespie (guitars/vocals) kicks out the vocals in his soft melodic tone alongside a sparkling guitar melody that would fit snugly into the back catalogue of bands such as Supertramp and 10cc.

The Feeling

Opening track ‘Want You Now’ was well received by the sparse crowd, and it was clear to see that this band are well-versed in the art of writing melodic songs. Without a doubt The Feeling are able to write melodic songs that bands like Keane could only dream of being able to write songs this good!

The second track ‘Helicopter’ got a good reaction from the crowd, which had started to increase in size at this point.

Usually support bands save their biggest hit for the final song- but The Feeling clearly are aware that all of their songs are great and so they played their biggest hit to date ‘Sewn’ as the third track- which was a brave move as usually once the biggest hit has been played the audience usually go and get a drink- however this simply wasn’t the case with The Feeling. They had the entire audience mesmerised.

The Feeling

I could go on forever about how fantastic this set was, however I’m sure you get the point, this was one of those sets that just flew by at a supersonic speed- ‘Never Be Lonely’, ‘Rose’, ‘Fill My Little World’, and ‘Join With Us’ were an absolute pleasure to listen to live.

The final song ‘Love It When You Call’ was an infectious little number and I hope they release it as a single. If this is a small taste of what their album is going to be like then I will be at the front of the queue on it’s first day of release!!

The Feeling

The Feeling look set to be a mega big band, this was one of those ‘special’ gigs that just had a spark about it- Next time they tour they will be headlining their own tour- in fact maybe the Charlatans should have been the support band for The Feeling.
