Hush

Nottingham Rescue Rooms on Sat 10th Sep 2005

Hush were supportiung Stephen Fretwell

Hush are a very difficult group to describe when playing live, in very simple terms Hush are a Danish Duo. Michael Hartmann is the guitarist and Dorthe Gerlach is the female vocalist.

To be very blunt- their set opener was very difficult to hear because the audience were still talking to each other whilst Hush tried to make an impression. (Rather ironic being called Hush and the audience not being silent!!!) That should give you an indication of how much stage presence Hush possess! However by the second track everybody had stopped talking and started to give Hush their full attention.

Their music is very intricate at times and Michael is certainly an incredible guitar player as he is able to produce some wonderfully melodic guitar hooks effortlessly, whilst vocalist Dorthe gently guides the listener through the song with her silky angelic voice.

Admittedly I only knew the name of one track- 'A Lifetime' which is also the name of the album.

Their music seems to lean towards having huge speckles of country based styles throughout each of the tracks, and to be honest I have never been a big fan of country music- however Hush seem to have got the blend absolutely right so that it is subtle enough to be heard and recognised as country music but without being overpowering.

Hush are certainly unique- I have never had the pleasure of hearing a duo as incredibly talented as Michael and Dorthe. They seem to have an incredible chemistry between them and hopefully they will continue to gain more and more fans over the next few months.

If you get the chance to see these live then I would recommend that you do so next time they are playing locally!
