Terrorvision

Nottingham Rock City on Tue 12th Apr 2005

Terrorvision's history is sadly one of hardship and bad luck, to put it bluntly- how many groups do you know that have been dropped from their record label after releasing a huge hit which reached number 2 in the charts? Well that's what happened to this band sadly. For whatever reason the band decided to call it a day in 2001 after thirteen years together.

So four years on, Tony and crew decided to give the fans what they wanted by doing one final tour for one week only. If you missed this tour then chances are you wont ever get to catch Terrorvision again, but who knows...

Upon entering Rock City, there was an air of nostalgia about this gig. Quite a few of the fans that had turned up for this show had been loyal followers of the band quite literally since day one. Lot's of people were adorned with Terrorvision T-shirts from tours that took place many moons ago.

As soon as the band emerged onto the stage Tony shook a can of lager and sprayed it over the front rows. Long gone are the days when he would run out on stage with a super soaker water pistol and drench pretty much the entire crowd.

Frontman Tony Wright is still frighteningly energetic and just bounces from one end of the stage to the other end almost effortlessly in time with the music, which can only be described as 'bouncy' rock music. Not only that, he managed to climb towering stacks of amplifiers so that he could see over the entire crowd.

As for the music, well I wont insult your intelligence- they played all of their classics- let's be honest they haven't released any new material for some time and so it was a certainty that it would be all the crowd pleasers being belted out throughout the night.

'Josephine', 'Alice, What's The Matter', and 'American TV' were all delivered to the audience within the first twenty minutes or so, which made a refreshing change watching a band genuinely giving the audience what they wanted and not making them wait until near to the end of the show for the classic tracks. Not only were Terrorvision giving the crowd what they wanted, they were delivering it with such energy and passion that you got the feeling the band genuinely wanted to give the audience what they wanted- which is very rare to see these days.

The infectious bouncy tunes kept coming 'Celebrity Hitlist', 'My House' and 'Middleman' were lapped up by the crowd- who had now fallen under Tony's spell- there was nothing Mr Wright could possibly do to make the crowd not like him.

The dancefloor turned into one huge sea of waving hands during 'Tequila', and I think it was a safe bet to say quite a few of the audience members had quite clearly been drinking way too much of that before the show.

Terrorvision brought the set to a close with 'Pretend Best Friend', 'Oblivion', and 'Perserverance'. Which left everyone feeling as if they had definitely got their moneys worth- the only downside being that this could quite possibly be the last time they hear those songs played live.
