Megadeth

Rock City, Nottingham on Sat 5th Feb 2005

Megadeth returned to Rock City last night to demonstrate why they are still the kings of rock. Yet again they have altered their line up- this time around the line up is Dave Mustaine (vocals/guitar), James Macdonough (Bass), Glenn Drover (lead and rhythm guitars), and Shaun Drover on drums.

Despite the line-up alteration, Megadeth still sound awesome live, Glenn Drover nails every supersonic solo with such ease and precision that you just can't help but stand back in amazement. Not only that but probably as a mark of respect to all of Megadeth's previous axemen, he hasn't altered any of the notes on any of the songs, he plays them exactly how they were played by the original guitarists, and for that reason alone he has earned a lot of respect from the fans.

Megadeth

Dave Mustaine's past is well documented, and therefore here is one person who needs no introduction, even after all these years his voice sounds wickedly evil and he has one of those devilish smiles that can send a shiver down your spine instantly.

To see Mr Mustaine playing guitar live is truly one of the most amazing things ever, and unlike some other mega selling rock bands, with Megadeth you can see that all of the members and especially Dave are extremely passionate about their music and haven't let the money or fame alter their integrity for mind blowing rock music.

Megadeth

'Blackmail The Universe' was the opening track for this mammoth gig, taken from their current album 'The System Has Failed', for those of you who haven't heard it yet, this really is one of Megadeth's best albums to date, would sit quite comfortably alongside 'Rust In Peace'.

As you would expect the set consisted of old and new material spanning across Megadeth's entire career, even today 'Peace Sells ... But Who's Buying' still receives a volcanic roar of approval from the crowd everytime it is played. Other tracks included in the set were 'Sweating Bullets', 'Tout Le Monde', 'Holy Wars', 'World On Fire', 'Hanger 18', Symphony of Destruction', 'Angry Again', to name just a few.

Megadeth

Dave Mustaine only spoke to the crowd once during the set to say that 'talk is cheap, and we are here to play music, so after I have said this, we are going to just play our stuff and pick the speed up until our drummer explodes'. With that sort of work ethic, it is a shame that Megadeth are not playing sell out stadiums- as they genuinely deserve to be playing at venues of that size.

For those of you who like real uncompromising rock music, then Megadeth are the band to see!! Without a doubt they are the genuine kings of rock, nearly twenty years on from when they were first formed, they still sound as passionate and enthusiastic about their music as when they first started.
