Bowling for Soup

Rock City, Nottingham on Wed 6th Oct 2004

Bowling For Soup are one of those bands that you can guarantee will put on an exceptional show and give you your moneys worth. So we trundled of to Rock City to catch these punk/drunk rockers in action.

Support came via The Feds, and Feable Weiner.

Feable Weiner managed to impress the crowd with their brand of up-tempo rock music. Their stage presence is superb considering that they have not had much practise at playing in UK venues. Definitely one of those bands to keep an eye on in the forthcoming months.

So onto the headliners, looking round the venue it was easy to see that despite Bowling For Soup not dominating the radio waves, they are still hugely popular and this in itself is an impressive achievement to accomplish.

The crowd consisted of a diverse range of music fans- from skater dudes, to people with flamboyant punk hairstyles, and the typical students wearing whatever t-shirt they consider to be ‘cool’.

Jaret, Chris, Erik, and Gary strolled onto the stage amidst a volcanic round of applause. They wasted no time in ploughing through their set which included their recent single ‘1985’.

Bowling For Soup seem to genuinely like embracing the crowd in conversation- topics covered in tonight’s show included discussing which finger they use to insert into their anus, as well as how they would like to be Robin Hood and his Merrymen. As always it was all done in good fun and they have such an irresistible charm about them that it is difficult to take it offensively.

Bowling for Soup

They included a lot of older material in their set including my personal favourite- ‘Girl All The Bad Guys Want’- which is always a crowd pleaser, and never fails to impress.

Once again Bowling For Soup managed to impress the hell out of me, and without I doubt I can honestly say that these were one of the most entertaining bands that I have had the pleasure of seeing for a long time. Fingers crossed that they won't leave a gap of twenty months before returning to Rock City.

Bowling for Soup

Despite playing a storming set for over an hour and twenty minutes, the band decided to do a meet and greet session to sign things for their fans- not many bands would do that after playing a gig- so utmost respect to them for doing that.

An absolutely stunning gig!!!
