Since the start of their career in 1962 the Twinkle Brothers have worked with many well known producers including Lee Scratch Perry, Bunny Lee and Duke Reid. In the 1970s they started to produce their own recordings. The band were signed to Richard Branson's Virgin label in the 1970s. After leaving the label in the 1980s, Norman moved to the UK and set up his own Twinkle label. The TwinkleBrothers have released over 70 albums and over 29 12" records and over 136 7" singles. Their recordings stay true to their sound of roots reggae and to their rastafarian beliefs. The TwinkleBrothers are regulars on the international festival circuits where Norman is well known for his energetic performances. Check out this clip of the Twinkle Brothers at Outlook Festival: Channel One and The Twinkle Brothers enjoy a close working and personal friendship. This tour is the idea of Channel One's Mikey Dread who has long wanted to tour the sound system alongside the TwinkleBrothers. Mikey has been playing the Twinkle Brothers' riddims since the start of the sound system in the 80s, with some of the Twinkle Brother's tracks becoming signature Channel One tunes, such as Jahovia, Africa (Mikey's favourite) and Never Get Burn.

  4. Midnight Mango present UK 2-tone ska legends 07/12/2012 19:30 to 23:00 THE BEAT Plus Magnus Puto Doors Open 7:30pm (Standing show) Tickets: £15adv Tickets From: Phone: 0117 929 9008 Online: http://www.midnightmango.co.uk Booking fee may apply. The Beat hailed from working class, industrial Birmingham, England. When The Beat rushed on to the music scene in 1979, it was a time of social, political and musical upheaval. Into this storm came The Beat, trying to calm the waters with their simple message of love and unity set to a great dance beat. Over the course of the next five years The Beat toured relentlessly and released three studio albums: "I Just Can't Stop It", "Wh'appen", and "Special Beat Service". The band toured the world, touring with such artists as David Bowie, The Police, REM, The Clash, The Talking Heads, The Pretenders, and The Specials, to name but a few. The Beat kept scoring hits with tunes that have now become so popular that it's hard to remember a time when they didn't exist, such as "Mirror in the Bathroom", "Save it for Later", "I Confess", "Stand Down Margaret", and their serene cover of Andy William's "Can't Get Used To Losing You". On February 10th 2003 The Beat’s reunion gig took place at London's Royal Festival Hall. Ranking Roger along with Everett, Saxa, Neil and Andy were reunited with Dave Wakeling and Blockhead. The overwhelming success of the gig, encouraged Ranking Roger to resurrect The Beat, with his son Murphy accompanying Roger on vocals in place of Dave Wakeling. Saxa was eventually obliged to give up life on the road. However, the spirit of Saxa is still on the road and has left an indelible mark on this band. Having re-established The Beat in the UK, the band has had continued success with their tours of the UK, Ireland, Europe and Australia. Additionally Murphy aka Ranking Junior, has had combined success with The Ordinary Boys with their top 3 single ‘Boys will be boys’. At long last Roger and the boys have recorded the first album for The Beat since the early 1980’s. Currently being mixed by Adrian Sherwood the album is once again a work of pure brilliance by a band whose musical prowess has lasted 3 decades. http://www.myspace.com/thebeatofficial ****Midnight Mango Ltd**** http://www.midnightmango.co.uk More information about this event…

  6. A Fleece presentation by arrangement with Free Trade 27/11/2012 19:30 to 23:00 Dirty Three Plus…Zun Zun Egui Doors Open 7:30pm (Standing show) Tickets: £17.50 adv Tickets From: - 0117 929 9008 Online: Booking fee may apply. Legendary instrumental trio Dirty Three will boldly break cover in February 2012 with a remarkable new album, "Toward The Low Sun", on Bella Union records, plus an intensive live schedule of headline shows and festival appearances. Toward The Low Sun is the product of the most ceaselessly creative period of the band’s career. In the 6 year’s since the release of their previous album "Cinder", Jim White, Mick Turner an Warren Ellis have been relentlessly creating music in different permutations and locations around the globe. The artists they have performed and recorded with is testament to the high regard in which they are held. Warren resides in Paris, though is regularly to be found touring with the Bad Seeds and Grinderman or working with Nick Cave on soundtracks for such films as The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, The Proposition and The Road. Jim is based out of Brooklyn but endlessly tours the world, recording and/or performing with Cat Power, Bonnie Prince Billy, Nina Nastasia and PJ Harvey, whilst Mick lives in Melbourne where he has developed a fine reputation as a visual artist and released the Blue Trees album alongside the occasional Tren Brothers release. However, even amidst this frantic activity and incessant creativity a return to the mothership was inevitable. "Toward the Low Sun" is a cacophonyic explosion of influences and attitude that has the energy and urgency of a first release. There is an energy and a raw excitement evident from the first electrifying opening moments through to the album's finale. In Warren’s words, “Dirty Three has always been about the way we play together and feed off each other. We wanted this one to be a return to the more improvised and instinctive approach of the earlier recordings”. And indeed Toward The Low Sun sounds like a first ever recording, a punk avant-garde art-jazz record! And for all their incredible music of the past, the Dirty Three have never seemed more relevant. Live they remain a force unto themselves. Women faint and men weep openly. Don’t shade your eyes… Look Toward the Low Sun and you will know once again the burn of the Dirty Three! ‘New album ‘Toward The Low Sun’ out now on Bella Union’ www.dirtythree.com More information about this event…

METRONOMY The album 'The English Riviera' gives a variety of structures, with some material sounding almost improvised. Just a minute of the intro will be enough to confirm this is not a man who thinks inside given confines, The End Of You Too is a track throwing some intriguing shapes, colour combinations and styles. It crucially all sounds live, so even if it has been constructed on a computer, the presence of live musicians has given Metronomy's music an essentially human element, making it more vulnerable as a result. The album’s first single, “Ice Cream”, was released in March 2011. Battles and have caused a maelstrom of interest in the last 18 months, despite having only released 3 EPs. A phenomenon that began in NYC, they soon broke out of the cliquey East Coast scene, accumulating a fervent legion of fans across the US, a testament to their astounding live performances. And now, kicking off 2006 we present them to you with a uniquely packaged introductory album. Perhaps you have already come across this frenetic, experimental East Coast sensation when they headlined Eat Your Own Ears and rammed it to the rafters; perhaps you soon will when they play at the taste making ATP weekender in December. Precisely why they are one of the hottest US alt. imports is this; technically awe inspiring, Battles concoct a mix of strident post-rock/ jazz/ hardcore and electronics, stunning crowds with mind boggling poly-rhythmic sequences and complicated time signatures, hurtled at you with sheer sonic velocity. Too beat orientated to be dubbed ‘post rock’, as vanguards Battles stand on their own in the realm of contemporary music. Battles will captivate you live with the dexterous competency of each member, executing musical forms previously unattainable outside the sphere of the electronic scene. Some have dubbed Battles a ‘supergroup’ – John Stanier on drums, originating from the legacy that is Helmet, and still lending his skills to Mike Patton’s Tomahawk and Australian powerhouse The Mark of Cain; Ian Williams guitarist/ keyboardist known for his distinctive guitar styling in cult band Don Caballero; Dave Konopka, guitar and bass, previously in the underground band Lynx and Tyondai Braxton, avant-garde solo musician (who recently collaborated with Prefuse 73), here vox/ keyboardist/ guitar/ electronics As Battles explain, their sound is “Somewhere between electronic and rock. Those two factors. Since we’ve always been in bands, at this point we’re like horses trained to pull the sled w/ 3 marshall half stacks plus 80lb. trap case everywhere we go, but we don’t have to play garage music the way you might if all the members had only been in garage bands before. Battles can do what it wants.” And the result is evolved and fresh and justifies their position as the apple of the alternative scene’s eye. Everyone has Battles in their lives. The band’s second album, “Gloss Drop” will be released on June 6, 2011. The album’s first single, “Ice Cream”, was released in March 2011.
