  1. Ok, "emo" originated in DC in the 80's >__< Its and offshoot of punk (that's punk [sex pistols, buzzcocks, crass, the clash etc] not F***ing lee harding etc) it originated as emotive hardcore, then became emocore and is now just emo mkay. Original emo bands were nothing like todays, they include, Rites of Spring, Embrace, One Last Wish, Beefeater, Gray Matter, Fire Party check them out yeah? Emooooo was then pretty much re-invented in 1994, with new ideals, ways of dressing, this wave of emo started combining elements of Fugazi with there music, and produced bands like, Sunny Day Real Estate. Then came the 3rd wave of emo, which is the emo we know and love now the original bands of this third wave were Jimmy Eat World, Further Seems Forever, Dashboard Confessional...etc. But the basic emo has stayed the same. Emo shouldn't be determined by the bands >.< But behind the elements of a bands music. My Chemical Romance are not emo, they are associated with emo because of the lyrics and style of clothes of the band, but the actual music falls in alternative rock along with the white stripes >,< So the top ten emo bands, can really be whatever you wish it to be... it all depends, do you want acoustic, hardcore, screamo, metalcore...the list goes on..
