eGigs interview with Allen Stone

before he embarks on his UK tour on Thu 1st Nov 2012

Allen Stone is from Washington state in the U.S. and sees himself as a 25 year old "hippie with soul". The U.S. press sees him as a 'pitch-perfect powerhouse' and a 'true son of a preacher man'.

The singer released his self-titled album 'Stateside' on his own label in October 2011 and saw it rocket into the Top 10 of Billboard's Heatseakers Chart and the Top 5 of iTunes R&B/Soul Chart. He followed that with appearances on Conan, Jimmy Kimmel and Carson Daly, all before he was even signed to a record label.

Allen has since signed with ATO Records and is promoting the wide release of his album. I got the chance to catch up with Allen before he embarks on his UK tour, opening in London on 21st November.

For anyone who has not heard your music, describe it in your own words?
My music is soul music. A little R&B, a little blues, a little folk but primarily soul music.

You've been compared to Stevie Wonder by The NY Times, how does that feel?
It's extremely flattering. It's a bad description though. I am nowhere near the musician, performer, or artist that Stevie Wonder is in my opinion.

Who are your inspirations/influences?
Soul music from the 60's and 70's and GOOD R&B.

How do you feel in the lead up to the start of your first UK tour?
I am excited. I love the UK and I hope they love me too!

What should the fans expect from this tour?
A throw down, sweaty, soul concert!

What is your favourite song to perform from the album?
All of the songs are like my children. I love all of them the same.

Will you get much time to sightsee/hang out in the UK during the tour?
A little, but not as much as I would like though.

Is there anywhere you are looking forward to playing/seeing the most?
I am very excited to play London again. I played there in April and it was amazing for me – the energy there is on another level.

Describe yourself in one word.
Blessed.

What can we expect next?
I will be touring quite rigorously and then hopping in the studio at some point next year to record another record.
