Basement Jaxx

The Institute, Birmingham on Wed 3rd Dec 2014

Basement Jaxx are a British electronic dance music duo consisting of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe. The pair got their name from the regular night club they held in their hometown of Brixton.

They've been around for years, 15 years in fact, they're part of the British Institution!

1999 saw their first full length studio album 'Remedy', and their latest offering 'Junto' is their seventh studio album, which their touring at the moment throughout the UK. With eight dates left including tonight and culminating with two shows at the O2 in London

Basement Jaxx

I've seen Basement Jaxx quite a few times in the past: Isle of Wight 2009, Wireless 2014, and quite a few tours under their own steam even had chance to meet both the guys and they're surprisingly down to earth.

Tonight was one of those freeze your arse off nights, when you'd rather be at home on the couch under the duvet watching your favourite soap or box set, but not for me, it's all about one big party Basement Jaxx style. If it's anything like the show I saw last year it's gonna be EPIC!

We got to the venue just before the band came on, so unfortunately we missed the support act. It was packed to the rafters and like a sardine can.

Jaxx came on at 21.00 and didn't disappoint, starting off the set with'Good Luck' and from there on it was a plethora of hits old and new, focussing on the new album 'Junto'.

Christmas had come early, PARTY, PARTY, PARTY. Jaxx added their special ingredients by having different vocalists on different tracks, which is always awesome and tonight was no exception.

Basement Jaxx

A 90 minute set with some old crackers including 'Red Alert, 'Oh My Gosh', 'Romeo', 'Raindrops' and 'Do Your Thing'. It was like one big rave, just what you needed before Christmas. There was constant dancing and raving all night. It was pure madness, but good madness though.

The only disconcerting thing throughout the gig was it seemed like the venue was way too small, people were getting miffed at having pints dribbled over them and being squashed, cause it was such a crush, the amount of people did spoil the gig somewhat. We didn't have this problem when we saw them at the O2 Academy on their last tour, it would've been better at a bigger venue with a tad more room.

Tonight was all about having a good time, leaving your troubles at the door and having a good old 'shake your booty' time.

I never cease to tire from see 'The Jaxx', I always have an immense time and come away with an immense feeling of euphoria, and tonight was no exception.

They closed the show with 'Where's Your Head At', which was epic, there wasn't one person standing still or sitting in a corner, every booty was shaking. Followed up by an encore of 'Mermaid of Salinas' and 'Bingo Bango'.

An amazing night was had by all. Just one big party. Happy, Happy, Happy. Totally loved it.
