Feeder

Civic Hall, Wolverhampton on Thu 22nd Nov 2012

This year has been a big year for Feeder, already selling out a tour in January to celebrate single 'Borders', appearances at Isle of Wight festival, Kandal Calling, Reading & Leeds, Bestival and the release of their eight studio album 'Generation Freakshow'.

500,000 views alone of 'Borders' on You Tube signalled that Feeders year was gonna go from strength to strength, another sell out tour announced, five dates in November and this is where we are tonight.

I have followed Feeder for too many years and they always please the ears, they have die-hard fans like many bands who queue for hours and always grace the front row of many a venue. Tonight is no different.

After a mishap during the day of our boiler blowing up, having no hot water and no central heating we took solace in the car, after escaping from under the duvet.

We only got to the civic at 8.30pm so we missed all the support acts, much to our dismay.

Tonight was gonna be a mix of old and new material, which is what anyone would expect especially as Feeder are stalwarts in the music biz and have so many albums to their name.

13 photographers in the pit tonight which is quite an enormous amount considering at past Feeder gigs it's only been 2/3, so it was a bit of a scrum to say the least.

The stage set was pretty basic just the guys and a big screen on the back wall, it was all about the music tonight, nothing fancy just real live music.

The audience seemed pretty laid back during the first few songs but after 'Insomnia' kicked in it was business as usual. Moshing, sweat, air punching, shoving, pure mental-ness.

The gig took me back to five years ago or more when I saw Feeder play at the old Barfly in Birmingham, it was just as busy then, metal and sweaty, but the vibe was immense, Feeder at their best.

There's one thing Feeder can definitely do and that is play live to a colossal level and tonight was no exception 'Buck Rogers' whipped the audience into a complete feeding frenzy, apparently Grant had lost the toss with the other band members so they had to play the song tonight.

I love the fact it was more about the oldies 'Just The Way I'm Feeling' and 'Comfort in Sound', absolute class, totally mind blowing if I may say.

We were treated to hits from every era from way back to present day, new single 'Idaho' rang around the civic and the bass blew my ears off. The audience were in their element.

Tonight was immense, like going back in time, I totally loved it. I never tire of seeing Feeder live and I don't think I ever will.
