Mudbone

Birmingham NEC on Wed 29th Nov 2006

I am always up for trying to catch different bands, and Mudbone certainly fit into that category- in a good way!

Admittedly I had never heard of them up until this point. So for those of you who haven’t heard of them either, their music is enriched deeply in the blues- however it has been revitalised and energised with all sorts of weird and wonderful sounds. This is funkadelic Hip-hop with lots of soul!

Whilst they were belting out songs from their debut album ‘Fresh Mud’, it was easy to see that this band have a mighty stage presence and their soulful harmonies along with the hip hop beats certainly got the crowd moving.

Frontman Muddy is a great vocalist- and is one of those rare performers who can keep your attention with the use of just his voice and no other fancy gimmicks, and to see it is an absolute pleasure listening to him would be an understatement.

Songs like ‘Freedoms Coming’ and ‘Evil’ demonstrated that they are able to produce material which could easily give groups like Black Eyed Peas a good run for their money.

Mudbone are one of the few bands that I could easily listen to non-stop, and judging by this live performance, they are certainly in contention to have a very good career in music!!
