Astrid Williamson

Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham on Mon 24th Apr 2006

Astrid Williamson had the task of warming the crowd up for Darren Hayes imminent arrival.

Astrid’s music is country/folk based, and so was quite possibly something that would not be normally listened to by a Darren Hayes fan.

However to her credit, she managed to keep the audience enchanted with her wonderfully woven acoustic guitar melodies and tender vocals. She belted out some stunning tracks, such as ‘Another Twisted Thing’, and forthcoming single ‘Superman 2’. All taken from her album entitled ‘Day Of The Lone Wolf’. She even managed to squeeze in a cover version of Snow Patrol's ‘Run’.

On a musical level it would be difficult to fault Astrid, but in between the songs there was frequently an uncomfortable silence. Even though she did attempt to make conversation with the audience, it never really flowed that well.

Her musical ability more than made up for this slight problem, and it looks like that once she has had more live experience she will have the confidence to speak to the audience without creating an uneasy silence. So if you like melodic masterpieces which are done acoustically then Astrid Williamson would certainly be worth a listen. Definitely one of those artistes to keep an eye out for!
