Amplifier

Rock City, Nottingham on Tue 2nd Sep 2003

Rumoured to be one of the next big rock band, Amplifier are a rock trio, which is quite rare these days. They arrived on stage to a Luke-warm reception, maybe due to the fact that there were only about 12 people in the room at this point.

However despite such a disappointing turnout, Amplifier carried on like true professionals and belted out their music without a care in the world. This reminded me a lot of Metallica in their early days, when they would just play and really wouldn’t care how many people were in the venue.

Once Amplifier had started to unleash their style of pure rock music on the audience, the room started to fill up, with people coming in from the Rig (club next to Rock City) to see where the fast, fierce, thunderous, over powering, vibrant, startling rock music was coming from.

The fact that these people who only popped in to take a peek decided to stay can only be due to the fact that they write brilliant songs. Their only fault is that they still come across as being slightly non-interactive with the audience, but I’m sure that will improve with experience.

‘The Consultancy’, ‘UFO’ and ‘Motorhead’ were all rocktastic songs, played with such energy and vigour that it was easy to see why Amplifier have the right ingredients to make it as the next big rock band.

Amplifier seem to have a down to earth quality about them which is hard to believe after all the hype they have had surrounding them with regards to them being the next big rock band. In a years time these are going to be a force to be reckoned with.
