Madness return for Teenage Cancer Trust benefit concerts

plus Joan Armatrading, Amy MacDonald, David Gray and Newton Faulkner

news: Monday 10th March 2008

Teenage Cancer Trust has today announced two new dates as part of their week of benefit gigs. Madness headline the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday 8th April and there will be the first ever TCT session gig with performances from Joan Armatrading, Amy MacDonald, David Gray and Newton Faulkner on Sunday 13th April to raise much needed funds and awareness for Teenage Cancer Trust.

Tickets for both shows have gone on sale today and can be purchased here.

Marking the 8th year of Teenage Cancer Trust gigs at the Royal Albert Hall, Madness, who are playing their second gig for TCT, Joan Armatrading, Amy MacDonald, David Gray and Newton Faulkner will join the already announced Noel Fielding hosting a night of comedy, ‘Mod-Father’ Paul Weller with Steve Cradock and hotly-tipped soul singer, Duffy, the mighty Fratellis and one of Britain’s most ambitious live acts, Muse. Tickets for Muse and Paul Weller are sold out but there are tickets still available for the Fratellis and Noel Fielding's night of comedy.

The TCT gigs were the brainchild of The Who's Roger Daltrey CBE, patron of Teenage Cancer Trust, who has once again persuaded the best of British talent available across rock, pop and comedy to give up their time to raise money for this unique charity.

David Elliott, Chief Executive of the Royal Albert Hall commented, "The Royal Albert Hall is delighted to once again host the Teenage Cancer Trust Concerts. This week is one of the highlights of our programme each year and we are thrilled to see such a fantastic line-up of artists in support of such a worthwhile cause."

Also released today (Monday 10th March) is a DVD featuring previously unreleased footage from the Teenage Cancer Trust gigs. With exclusive performances from The Who, Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller, The Cure, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight, Bloc Party and Judas Priest, the DVD is on sale now for £11.99 from the Teenage Cancer Trust website www.teenagecancertrust.org and will be on general release and available from all good retailers from 14 April.

Each day in the UK, 6 teenagers will be diagnosed with cancer – that is over 2,000 diagnoses per year. TCT funds specialist teenage units in NHS hospitals, providing an environment where teenagers can get on with being teenagers, a positive environment expected to improve survival rates and ensure a better future for patients and their families.

In 2008, the charity will open 5 new units (in Leeds, Newcastle, Cardiff, Glasgow and Southampton) and will start building work on a further 2 (in Birmingham and Cambridge). More units are needed to ensure every single young person with cancer has access to one. Over the past seven years these shows have directly led to the development of three major Teenage Cancer Trust units across the country as well as much awareness for this neglected group of young people.
