Rolling Stones anger animal rights activists

news: Friday 20th April 2007

Rolling Stones @ MEN Arena, Manchester on 05-09-2003 Plans to sedate 300 horses in Belgrade because of a Rolling Stones gig are angering animal rights activists.

Organisers say that they have concerns that the horses will react badly to the noise generated by the group when they play to 100,000 fans in the Serbian capital.

Jovanka Prelic, horse handler from the Belgrade Hippodrome said: "Horses differ, just like people, some are nervous and more skittish. If they start to panic they'll get sedatives."

Elvir Burazerovic, head of the animal rights group Orca, wants the concert to be moved rather than the horses, saying "Surely our big city has enough open spaces where even 150,000 people can fit in. We think the Hippodrome should be left to horses."
