The group formed at the tail end the 1980s by former Housemartins members Paul Heaton and Dave Hemingway.
After 13 albums, 6 top ten singles, and a 19 year reign the band finally decided that they should split. They called a meeting on the 30th January 2007, and released a statement yesterday, citing reasons for their split as "musical similarities".
The statement went on to say that "The band would like to thank everyone for their 19 wonderful years in music".
One rumoured reason for the split is so that frontman Paul Heaton can pursue a solo career. Although going by the amount of comeback tours announced last week we wouldn't be suprised if we have news of a Housemartins reunion in the next few days...
