Ian Brown to perform at Manchester Versus Cancer

with Echo and the Bunnyman and Peter Hook

news: Wednesday 10th January 2007

Ex-Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown has been confirmed as the headliner for the second Manchester Versus Cancer concert.

Brown will also be joined by Echo and the Bunnymen and New Order's Peter Hook. The event takes place on Friday 30th March 2007 at the Manchester Evening News Arena.

Last year's charity fundraiser was organised by Andy Rourke (formerly of The Smiths). Who told the Manchester Evening News "I just had to help. At first, it was planned to be an intimate fundraising gig, but after speaking with friends and musicians, I realised that almost everybody had been affected by cancer in some way.

We knew that Versus Cancer was going to be big, but we didn't realise just how successful it would turn out to be. This next one is even bigger, but we're still looking for support from the public and businesses to make sure as much money as possible goes to the cause.
"

Rourke also commented on how pleased he was to have Brown on the bill, "As one of Manchester's finest and most successful artists, it was really important that we had him on board, especially since he wasn't available to play at last year's concert."

With Ian Brown playing this event in the heart of Manchester, surely it will spark new rumours of a Mani/Brown Stone Roses reunion?

Tickets for the charity gig go on sale on Friday 12th January. To learn more about Versus Cancer, click here.
