no more booking fees for Scottish venues

news: Friday 17th November 2006

Good news if you’re a fan of live music in Scotland. Glasgow’s SECC has decided to scrap booking fees on all their gigs.

The fees, which are often around 10% (but can be more), will be scrapped for customers who pay by cash. Unfortunately, the fees will still exist if you choose to pay by credit or debit card or over the telephone.

The decision to change the policy came after The SECC received a number of complaints from its customers regarding the hidden fees that come with buying tickets for gigs.

The good news is that music lovers will now be able to buy tickets for a number of venues (not just The SECC) without a booking fee, as the venue sells tickets for other gigs, not just their own.

Tickets can be bought at either The SECC box office, or their ticket outlet in the St. Enoch Centre.

The venue is still not widely advertising the fact, as they still make money from sales by credit and debit card and purchases made by phone.

Last year promoters were urged by the Governments Office of Fair Trading to be clearer about adverts, after several complaints were made concerning ‘hidden charges’.
