The Answer

Nottingham Rock City on Tue 8th Aug 2006

Being the support act for any band is nerve tingling and can at times be humiliating playing to only a handful of people and that is on a good day. So I imagine to be the support act for a mega popular band such as Whitesnake must be even worse.

I was undecided if The Answer said yes to the mammoth task of supporting Whitesnake on tour because they were very stupid or genuinely believed in their own talent and thought they may just be able to win the crowd over. Thankfully it was their belief in their talent that must have prompted them to agree to this.

They must be doing something right because they had managed to capture one of the biggest audiences I have ever witnessed at Rock City for a support band. It was tightly packed as the band arrived on stage- unsure if this was because people wanted to get near to the front early on to be in position for the headlining band or if it was genuine interest in The Answer.

Where do I begin with this band? Fronted by Cormac Neeson who looks like he’s been homeless for a few months- with his long shaggy hair covering him most of the time. However after hearing him sing- I had completely forgotten about the looks. Mr Neeson certainly knew how to impress the audience with his vocals.

The Answer

The Answer sound like AC/DC with a retro razor-sharp edge to their sound and packed full of intricate guitar parts. This is balls to the wall rock music with ultra amounts of attitude. Admittedly they wont get any prizes for originality- as it is clear that they are heavily influenced by bands such as Led Zeppelin and AC/DC- but regardless of their lack of originality- they play good old fashioned rock music which people thoroughly enjoy and if it ain’t broke why fix it?

If I had to pick a favourite track ‘No Questions Asked’ certainly seemed to go down really well with the audience- packed full of Jimmy Page riffs and Cormack doing his best to do Robert Plant impressions. You can’t help but love this track.

The huge crowd that had built up to see The Answer were more than happy by the end and gave the Answer a well deserved thunderous round of applause as they finished their last track and left the stage.

Their album ‘Rise’ should do well, and with a sound like this- it wont be long before they are headlining their own gig at Rock City. Keep an eye out for The Answer!
