Therapy?

Therapy? made a welcome return to Nottingham's Rock City after missing it out on their last tour last November. Also seeing as they will be playing the Download Festival 2005- Andy Cairns and crew probably thought it would be wise to do a gig so that they could use it to fine tune their live prowess before their performance at Download- what ever the reason the fans turned out in full force to cram into Rock City to see this Irish trio.

There is no denying that when it comes to album sales they have plummeted since their glory days way back in the mid -90's. To be honest I don't think the band members really care a great deal about record sales, as long as they can still amaze fans with their live show - and it plain to see that they certainly can impress their fans. Therapy? have mastered their live performance to such a level that very few other bands can match.

Andy Cairns (vocalist/guitarist) as always has an air of coolness about him whilst he is on stage, this guy has rock music running through his veins, and it certainly shows especially during 'Isolation' which Andy plays a supersonic mach 3 guitar riff with so much passion and vigour that is obsolete these days.

Considering that they have such a vast back catalogue, they played a very well thought out set to cater for every type of Therapy? fan possible- the fans who like them for their popular hits were catered for with classic tracks like 'Die Laughing', 'Going Nowhere', 'Teethgrinder', and even the fans who prefer their not so commercial material were catered for with tracks such as 'Potato Junkie'.

Basically in short there was a mixture of old, new, commercial, and non-commercial tracks throughout the set, so I won't insult your intelligence by listing them all, the only comment that I will make is that one song in particular crept it's way back into their setlist which hadn't been included for many many years now…. So as soon as the words 'Hey little girl wanna go for a ride?' were hauntingly belted out, there was a look of utter amazement on most of the fans faces as they realised that the song 'Diane' was included once again into the setlist. Hopefully they will play this at Download as well because it will be awesome hearing a gigantic crowd singing along to this track.

To sum up, Therapy? are amongst rock royalty when it comes to playing live, without a doubt they are still able to rock and deserve to be up there with legendary bands such as Metallica and Iron Maiden.

Roll on Download 2005....
