Embrace

Doncaster Dome on Fri 25th Feb 2005

After so much expectation it looks like Embrace’s fourth album ‘Out of nothing’, has finally given this band the recognition it deserves. Being a huge fan of their newest album I got tickets for the long since sold out return to Doncaster only a day before the concert through a bidding site. Although during the support act the crowd seemed pretty stand still and quiet, the second Danny, Richard, Steve, Mike and Mickey graced the stage, the atmosphere took a new turn.

Kicking off with a recent hit off their new album ‘Ashes’, lead singer Danny Mcnamara could quite easily have left the stage as throughout the whole set the crowd sang word for word the back catalogue of Embrace’s hits. The set lasting over an hour and a half flew by, as men and women, young and old, arms round each other sang along to the soft rock ballads.

Although older fans of the band may have been slightly disappointed with the fact that the new album was well plugged with eight songs being played from it, they did slip in old classics from previous albums ’Drawn without memory’, ’The good will out’ and also the singles collection.

The band also previewed a couple of the 24 songs that had been written during their time in Spain, one of which was so new that in its introduction Danny apologised as it was nameless and the words weren’t finished. The new songs featured seemed slightly heavier and after a first listen they seemed quite good.

After a 14 song set which included a fantastic sing along to ‘Come back to you know’, the band left the stage to a rapturous reception to later return with a four song encore which included songs from their previously released albums.

Embrace showed why they are very successful and can conquer large festivals. It was clear to see that Danny still has the passion for songs that he must have to sing again and again. The sound performance was good and the performance by Embrace was congratulated by the number of bra’s thrown at Danny Mcnamara during the set.

SET LIST- Ashes, All you good good people, Wipe your eyes, Looking as you are, Someday, Gravity, Spell it out, New Adam new Eve, Contender, My weakness, Keeping, Come back to what you know, Save me, Out of nothing. Encore- One big family, Glorious day, Wonder, The good will out.
