Rammstein

Nottingham Arena on Mon 7th Feb 2005

If you were asked if you would like to come out and listen to some music which is sang in German, and watch middle aged men play around with fire, your first response would be to laugh and say no.

In essence that is all Rammstein do!

Rammstein

Myself, along with around 10,000 other people packed into the Nottingham Ice Arena to catch this wonderful spectacle. Rammstein certainly prove the point that it's not what you do, it's the way that you do it. And they certainly did it big style.

Rammstein

From the opening song 'Reise Reise' taken from the album of the same name, Rammstein know exactly how to command a stage and control the entire audience, their stage theatrics are out of this world- admittedly a lot of the effects involve fire, and we are not talking about the small explosions that you might find at a normal rock gig- hell no, these are mammoth 20-30 foot flames which are so hot that you can feel the heat even whilst standing at the back of the arena. There were flames going up, down, left, right, high, low, across the stage and into the audience.

Rammstein

The theatrics didn't just stop there! During 'Mein Teil' a poor human was being cooked alive in a huge boiling pot and of course the cooking pot was set alight with a gun shaped flame-thrower.

The lighting display was gigantic and easily visible from the back of the arena, which is just as well considering there were no screens for the people at the back to see their rock gods. Therefore there had to be over the top lighting and impressive pyros just to amuse the people at the back.

Rammstein

The music was amazing- and it just goes to show that if the music is good enough it will win fans no matter which language it is in. Even though the music was played at ear-bursting volume- vocalist Till Lindemann's singing was crystal clear and you could make out every single word- unlike most bands who just distort the vocals due to the over excessive volume.

Rammstein

Rammstein's set consisted of a good mixture of new and old tracks including 'Du Hast' which got a brilliant crowd reaction as well as an incredibly over sized moshpit. They also managed to squeeze in a cover version of Depeche Modes 'Stripped'.

Rammstein

Words really can't do this gig justice- Rammstein are one of those rare bands that are spell binding live! Absolutely mind blowing!!! I'm off to enquire about a flame throwerÂ….
