Hiding Place

Rock City, Nottingham on Sat 20th Nov 2004

Last time we caught up with Hiding Place was during their support slot with The Rasmus on their UK tour. Sadly Hiding Place were pretty dire to say the least, there was nothing good about them at all.

However despite their crap performance during the Rasmus tour, one of my friends suggested that they were definitely having a bad night and that I should give them another chance to try to captivate me with their live performance.

So with some hesitation, eGigs decided to catch Hiding Place live at Rock City. One thing is for sure, they certainly have an increasing fan base - so they must be doing something right.

Hiding Place arrived on stage and played their latest single 'Cruel Kindness' as their opening number. Their vocalist Paul Mccallon belted out the lyrics with more power than an atomic bomb. He has more stage presence than Elton John has tantrums and was in your face more than Jordan's breasts.

The strange thing was that after just one track I was captivated, those painful memories of Hiding Place supporting The Rasmus almost seemed like it was an impossibility.

However Hiding Place know how to put 110 percent into a show and the audience lapped up every moment of their set, which included- 'What Do You Want To Know', 'Revelations' and of course their ballad 'At One Time'.

The band didn't have a long set time- barely thirty minutes! But they managed to squeeze in eight tracks before having to leave the stage. Which was enough to have impressed the audience and leave them wanting more!!

Reluctantly I have to admit that this time around Hiding Place were a fantastic band to watch live, and it was genuinely an absolute pleasure to see a band kicking out real rock music!!
