Anastacia

NEC, Birmingham on Wed 3rd Nov 2004

After waiting for what seemed like an eternity for Anastacia to do a UK tour, we made the journey to Birmingham to catch Anastacia on the opening night of her UK tour.

The first major shock upon arrival at the NEC is that they charge £6 parking, on top of a ticket that costs upto £35, this is a little bit extortionate.

Once inside and awaiting the arrival of Anastacia- it was a pleasant surprise to discover that we didn't have to sit through some crap support band - instead Anastacia would just be the only artiste playing- which is how gigs should be.

The stage curtain fell down to reveal the band and Anastacia on top of a flight of stairs, which she slowly walked down to a thunderous reception from the crowd. All of the usual gimmicks that you would expect a pop artiste to use were included in this show- strobe effects, costume changes, use of raised platforms and stairs, as well as the usual dancers coming out to distract you whilst there was a costume change taking place.

The major difference is that she has an amazing voice and can sing in key which is what most young pop icons are lacking today. The most noticeable thing about Anastacia is her over infectious happiness- which transfers onto her fans leaving everybody happy.

The set consisted of a good mixture of songs from her current album- 'Anastacia' and her previous albums- 'Not That Kind' and 'Freak Of Nature'. Song like 'Paid My Dues', and 'Not That Kind', 'I'm Outta Love' all seemed to get a top class roar of approval from the crowd.

My personal favourite songs of the night were 'Left Outside Alone' and 'Sick And Tired' they just spring to life when being performed live, as well as having some poignancy when you consider what has happened to her over the past year or so. (She was diagnosed with cancer).

This was one of those gigs that was entertaining and fun as well as having the pleasure of hearing Anastacia sing her heart out. She comes across as being one of those rare breeds of singer/songwriters that are just genuinely nice and happy to be doing what she does.

An amazing singer to watch in action- an absolute pleasure to see live!!!
