Glastonbury's Left Field takes over Brixton Academy

Hope Not Hate – Stop the BNP Wednesday 30th April 2008

Glastonbury Festival's Left Field stage will be taking over Brixton Academy on Wednesday 30th April 2008 on the eve of London's local elections. The event will be a warm up for the festival at the end of June where the Saturday night there will see the Left Field host a massive anti-racist party.

On the bill at Brixton are long-term anti-fascists Alabama 3, legendary reggae outfit and RAR stalwarts Misty in Roots and Glastonbury festival favourites and campaigners Levellers.

In support will be Tom Robinson, who headlined the Victoria Park RAR Carnival in 78, hotly-tipped Brixton band The Thirst and veteran socialist and campaigner Tony Benn who spoke at the original Rock Against Racism rally. The show will be the final event on the national "Hope Not Hate – Stop the BNP" tour.

Most of these Brixton acts will also be heading to Glastonbury later in the summer to play the Left Field. Geoff Martin, Left Field Director, said, "We are delighted to be able to hook up Glastonbury with Brixton in the fight against racism. On the eve of the London elections we will be sending out a clear message that there's no place for the politics of race hate in this City and that the flame of Rock Against Racism is still burning bright 30 years on."
