On Friday the 25th January at Shepherds Bush Empire London, there will be a night of live music and film to celebrate thirty years of The Ruts. The Ruts were a reggae-influenced British punk rock band, notable for the 1979 Top 10 hit 'Babylon's Burning', and an earlier single 'In a Rut', which was never a hit but was a popular song at the time.
Friends of The Ruts will be performing their own songs plus their favourite Ruts tunes. The confirmed artists so far include The Alabama 3, TV Smith, Captain Sensible and friends, Max Splodge, The Glass Heroes, members of The Members and more 'special' guests. Doors open at 7pm.
In addition to the live music the event will also play host to the premier screening of 'The Gig' introduced by Henry Rollins. A film of one of the best punk gigs of all time which took place on the 16th July 2007. Held as a benefit for Paul Fox who had been diagnosed with inoperable Cancer, it was a gig born of tragic circumstances that had a profound effect on everyone there, fans and artists alike. All the artists performed for free and all egos were left at the door. This short film shows the highlights of that night and has been specially edited to celebrate the launch of the Limited Edition Tribute DVD from the event.
