Take away all the effects pedals and what not, is Tom Morello still such a great guitarist? I'm not so sure. Definately not top ten of all time. Just for the record tho i dont dislike him and am a fan of Rage(well self titled and B.O.L.A. anyway) and Audioslave.

RORY GALLAGHER - RIP
RICHARD THOMPSON
CLIVE GREGSON
JIMI HENDRIX - RIP
ADRIAN LEGG
CHUCK PROPHET
JIMMMY PAGE
JACKIE LEVEN
JOHN MARTYN
JOHN SQUIRE
not claiming they are the fastest, the loudest, technically the best or whatever, just that I have enjoyed them far more than most other guitarists - its a combination of skill, feel and what works. Seen them all live ( except hendrix ) and its a near reiligious experience to see someone make six strings do those things.
Rory Gallagher in particular, could make 3 notes and an open chord a matter of wonder, raising the hairs and inspiring awe in a way most diddly diddly fretwank speedmerchants can only dream of. That said, Adrian Legg appears to have 15 fingers on each hand.

Better rhythm player
Mind you, Dave Mustaine was a f**king quality rhythm player - think him & Marty Friedman were similar to James & Kirk
