June @ The Georgian Theatre!

June is nearly upon us again, and with it brings a whole host of entertainment at The Georgian Theatre, Stockton-on-Tees! Check it out:

Milestones Jazz – Extreme Measures
Thursday 4th June, 8pm
£5
Led by Barbados-born drummer David Carnegie, this recently formed outfit has quickly established itself as the most dynamic group to emerge from the North East in years. Their gigs, including an appearance at the recent Sage Jazz Festival, and our own Riverside Fringe have attracted a new young audience alongside hardened jazz fans, showing that this is music that still has plenty to offer.

FTWL Recording - Dirty Weekend + Support
Friday 5th June, 8pm
£2.50 adv / £4 door
Get your weekend off to a mucky start with Stockton’s finest Dirty Weekend, songs from the gutter but surely looking at the stars. A night of gritty urban drama from this quintet of ‘Hooligans’ or sometimes angels with dirty faces. This kicks off our new FTWL recordings and will be released as a live album later in the year by TMA.

The sensational Funktion come to the Georgian with their mix of classic Motown, soul and funk hits – think 4 part vocal harmonies with seamless arrangements and classic songs by Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye + Monkey Train DJ Paddy M will take you into the night with the best soul, ska and R&B around.

Parents and friends are encouraged to attend – Sunday papers and nibbles supplied.

Milestones Jazz – Ruth Lambert Quintet
Thursday 11th June, 8pm
£5
Ruth Lambert is an accomplished and versatile jazz singer with an impressive repertoire of standards from the great American songbook. Her first solo album ‘So Many Stars’ was released on the Jazz Action label and tonight she will be singing a selection from her brand new album ‘Easy Street’. Ruth and her musicians were a sensation at this year’s Sage Gateshead International Jazz Festival!

Also on the bill are the Cavern Club regulars, The Underdogs playing a mixture of their own catchy pop songs plus some well chosen classics! Stockton’s very own political folk troubadour Nigel Cooke completes the line up.
