Just read Danielle Millea's review of the Pogues Manchester show. I realize that journalistic standards are much lower in cyberspace, but her review is an embarrassment. I mean, she can't even do a little homework to find out the name of the "young woman" who sang "Fairytale of New York"?? I mean considering the "young woman" is the daughter (Ella) of a band member (Jem Finer) and has been singing the female part on this song for all the concerts in 2006, it wouldn't be too hard to find that information.
I also like the way that Ms. Millea can read Ella Finer's mind, knowing her intentions about leaving the stage in a hurry, is she
like one of the X-Men?? Also, she lazily copied a setlist- Pogues die hards know what "Dog" is, but a casual reader wouldn't
know that the correct name of the song is the Irish Rover. There was no mention of the death of Popes banjo player Tom McManamon which obviously cast a pall on the show. Don't be so lazy Danielle, you are an embarrassment
Thanks for commenting, these forums are here to debate the articles on eGigs and we appreciate any feedback that you might have.
However, I do think you're a little harsh on this reviewer. Danielle is certainly not an embarrasment and I think if you take a look back through her past reviews you might find yourself being a little embarrased at having said that.
Just because Danielle didn't use the woman's name there is nothing wrong with that. She described accurately what was going on on stage and therefore there is nothing to fault with her review. There is plenty of information in our reviews and I very much doubt that EVERY single Pogues review has named this singer, and I cannot see why you would criticize someone who didn't.
Also you don't have to be a mind reader to know when someone is uncomfortable about something, body actions are a big give away.
