  3. Combining the jagged edges of stripped down/back-to-basics rock n' roll with bombastic attitude and art-rock intelligentsia, using the prism of the past to look toward the potential brilliance of the future, RETOX's YPLL arrives via Epitaph Records in May 2013. A brand new video, "Congratulations You Are Good Enough," is already live on Vice's Music Channel, showcasing the band’s kinetic, challenging energy. Check out the new video here. RETOX deliver a mission statement in 12 blistering tracks, the vast majority of them clocking in at two minutes or less. It's the type of rallying battle cry that inspires lingering and dormant primal urges and too-long-suppressed societal dissatisfaction in those who encounter its punk rock lineage and postmodern crash-and-ban. Subcultural iconoclast and artistic visionary Justin Pearson is known in critical circles, amongst contemporaries across a wide variety of genres and to fans of incisively incendiary artistic expression around the world as one of the guiding lights of the groundbreaking outfit THE LOCUST. He resurfaced on record alongside gifted guitarist Michael Crain, dynamic bassist Thor Dickey and powerhouse drummer Brian Evans. Retox will play London's Cargo on the 12th July alongside two other hard hitting bands - ZEUS! from Italy and Londoners Broken DC. Tickets are on sale now... 6. Merchandise is a band fighting against the easy categorization reserved for abbreviated biographies. The project is equal parts punk misanthropy, maudlin balladeering, fine art, low humor, classical study, psychedelic spacecasing, mad science and pop genius. Formed as a trio in Tampa, Florida in 2008, the band has undergone ceaseless revision and reinvention. After putting out numerous records and tapes on independent punk labels and touring the underground, the band truly hit its stride with the release of their second LP "Children of Desire" in April 2012. In addition to a very warm reception from fans, the record received praise from the likes of Pitchfork, NME, Spin, and numerous other critics and journals. 2013 will see the band releasing a new 12" on Iowa City's excellent Night People label and touring extensively throughout America and Europe. 9. Coming to the attention of 4AD after a clutch of demo tracks went online early this year, Indians are still a relatively new proposition. From Copenhagen, Indians is actually one man, Søren Løkke Juul, who brought his band in to being last winter when he felt the need to challenge himself and do something different. Not aiming for anything other than satisfying a creative urge, things have snowballed quickly since. Having performed his first show back in February and self-releasing his debut single a few months later, he then signed a worldwide record deal with 4AD, recorded an album and enjoyed a fruitful summer on the road with tours throughout Europe and North America (playing shows with the likes of Beirut, Bear In Heaven, Dan Deacon, Lower Dens, Perfume Genius, Retribution Gospel Choir, Savages, Weird Dreams and more). Recorded in a countryside studio outside Copenhagen, Somewhere Else is a highly personal document that's equal parts melancholic lament and hopeful stargazing, with the album title itself an indication of the sense of otherness that runs throughout Søren's music. Heavily evocative of the natural world, the album's cavernous tones and Autumnal warmth just as much recall the vastness of the Scandinavia landscape that formed the backdrop of its conception as it does classic long players from likeminded avant-pop purveyors Flaming Lips and Radio Dept. Indians will play The Lexington, London on 1st February. Tickets are on sale now, here are the details... 11. Serafina Steer's new LP 'The Moths Are Real' is the Rough Trade Shops Album of The Month. The Jarvis Cocker produced release is out on CD, LP and download on January 14th, 2013 on Stolen Recordings. To herald the album's release a launch show 'Serafina Steer and Special Guests' will take place on Thursday 24th January at St. Leonard's Church Shoreditch, where some of the album was recorded. Previous albums 'Cheap Demo Bad Science' (2006) and 'Change Is Good, Change Is Good' (which Jarvis cited as his favourite album of 2010), firmly established Serafina as an emerging talent to watch, but this record sees her ideas developed and grown into something truly special. Serafina is accompanied on the album by Capitol K, Steve Mackey, Jarvis Cocker, The Boxettes, Polar Bear's Seb Rochford and The Flying Lizards' keyboard wizard David Cunningham. Recording took place at The Way Studios, Old Street, The Square in East London, Konk, Fish Factory and St Leonard's Church variously between December 2011 and June 2012. Unassuming, yet mesmerising, this album confirms the arrival of a singular talent, a breath-taking voice and an utterly unique lyricist. The album is preceded by a single 'Night Before Mutiny', which is out now. Here are the show details and ticket link... We found him there making some of the most beautiful and original electronic music we've heard in a long time. "Till We Ghosts" was the stunning debut single from the Cape Town-based producer Yannick Ilunga, aka Petite Noir. He crafts his innovative sound alone with live instruments and electronics; his remarkable voice underpinned by forward-thinking production. A unique concoction of influences, Petite Noir is able to seamlessly fuse intricate contemporary electronics with his stirring, soulful vocal and African shuffles that echo his homeland.
