eGigs talks to Middleman before their Leeds, and Reading shows

a quick chat at the Leeds Festival launch on Tue 4th Aug 2009

Middleman have played Leeds before and are now coming back to revel in the glory...

So, hi guys, is this your first major festival performance?
Lee Smith (Bass): No actually we've played Leeds before.

Ah right, so you’ve got a good career start already, how about a record deal?
Andy Craven-Griffiths (vocals): No, no, well we had a record deal, just one for two singles.

Again, a better start than most! So what stage can we catch you guys on at the weekend?
Andy: We’ll be playing on the Festival Republic stage.

I see, crossed wires somewhere I read the BBC introducing stage.
Lee: Well we had a sort of competition with five other bands on a previous BBC Introducing event which got us on this one.

Fair enough, so the Festival Republic stage, are you considering this a kind of step up from your BBC Introducing days?
Lee: Well it's a better stage! (all laugh)

I'll hold you to that!
Lee: We headlined what was to become the BBC Introducing stage two years ago, so I think yeah, we are considering this as the next step.

Andy: But we don't expect anything great to come of it because we’ve done so many things like this before. It's just part of life isn’t it?

So you guys have been going for a fair amount of time, do you already have a dedicated fanbase who'll come support you at these shows?
Lee: Yeah we do all right!

Andy: More so in Leeds...

Lee: We definitely expect to get a bigger reception at Leeds rather than Reading. But those people who don't go see us at Reading don't know what they're doing of course.

Incidentally, when can we catch you guys at the respective dates?
Andy: You can catch us opening the Friday at Reading and Sunday at Leeds.

And how can you describe your music and influences to the fellas out there?
Lee: We like Rage against the Machine but we also like to mix it up with some more electronic stuff.

Nice one! So, last port of call, where can we find you guys on Myspace so people can go and check you out before the festival.
Lee: Now that would be www.myspace.com/middlemanpop

Thanks very much guys!
